Total500

Questions by Difficulty

150 Moderate, 225 Difficult and 125 Very Difficult. Start with the Moderate ones in each batch if you are new to Decision Making, then work up.

How the Questions Are Built

160 case sets (110 with three questions, 50 with two) plus 70 standalone questions. Every question has five options, A to E, as in XAT.

How the Answers Are Explained

The key gives the best option and then explains why each of the other four is weaker, so you learn the reasoning, not just the letter.
How To Use

How To Practise XAT Decision Making With These Questions

1

Attempt before you check

Take a case, answer its questions and only then open the answer key. Peeking turns practice into reading.
2

Mark how sure you were

Note a confident, unsure or guess next to each answer. Right guesses and wrong confident answers both need a second look.
3

Read all five explanations

The key explains the options you did not pick too. That is where the judgment is learned.
4

Keep an error log by topic

Write the question ID, the topic from the table above and why you picked the wrong option. Patterns show up within a batch.
5

Repeat after a gap

Re-attempt your wrong questions a week later without looking at the explanation, and see if your reasoning changed.
Practice Plan

A 5-Week XAT DM Practice Plan

One batch a week, built from the five batches. Start whenever you like: the plan counts weeks, not dates.

1

Week 1: Batch 1, Learn the Format

Practise

Attempt the 100 questions in two sittings of 50, with no timer in the first sitting.

Review

Read all five explanations for every question you missed or guessed.

2

Week 2: Batch 2, Add Time Pressure

Practise

Time yourself per case and aim to finish each batch sitting without rushing the last cases.

Review

Start the error log by topic and compare it with Week 1.

3

Week 3: Batch 3, Fix Your Weak Topics

Practise

Attempt Batch 3, then redo the wrong questions from Batch 1 without opening the key.

Review

Pick the two topics with the most errors and reread their explanations.

4

Week 4: Batch 4, Section-Sized Sets

Practise

XAT 2027 has 21 DM questions, so attempt 21 questions in one sitting to feel the size of the section.

Review

Check which options tempt you again and again, and why.

5

Week 5: Batch 5, Full Simulation

Practise

Attempt Batch 5 in 21-question sittings, then re-attempt every wrong question from Batches 1 to 4.

Review

Compare your accuracy by topic with Week 1 and decide what to revisit before your mocks.

Approach

How To Approach an XAT Decision Making Question

A simple routine to follow on every case, and the one the answer key uses when it explains the options.

1

Read the whole case first

Read the passage once before the question. The detail that decides the answer is often one line near the end.
2

List who is affected

Name the people and groups the decision touches, from customers and staff to the firm itself, and what each stands to lose.
3

Separate facts from assumptions

Decide only on what the case states. An option that needs an assumption the case does not give is usually weaker.
4

Choose the complete, honest option

Prefer the option that deals with the problem openly and in the right order. Options that conceal, falsify or push the blame to someone else rarely hold up.
The Exam

XAT Decision Making in the Exam

What the Section Tests

Business and ethical caselets: trade-offs between stakeholders, managerial dilemmas and judgment calls. There is no fixed syllabus and no formula. See the XAT syllabus.

Size and Weight

In the XAT 2027 pattern, DM has 21 of the 95 questions, and it counts towards your overall percentile with VALR and QADI. See the exam pattern.

Marks and Percentile

+1 for a correct answer and −0.25 for a wrong one. The raw DM score for each percentile is in the score vs percentile tables.
